Mission Hills

 

 

Of the San Diego Metro neighborhoods, Mission Hills might be described as the "cool aunt". Still stylish and hip, but with a little more maturity and sophistication than its nearby cousins. First-class dining and shopping are plentiful in Washington/Goldfinch area. There's upscale grocery at Lazy Acres and more practical shopping at Vons across the street. Residents buy their plants from Mission Hills Nursery, founded in 1910 by Balboa Park Matriarch Kate Sessions.

 

Like many of the SD Metro neighborhoods, Mission Hills is historic. San Diego's most prominent architects and builders of the early 1900s built homes here, most of which still stand today, lovingly preserved. The variety of architectural styles feature Craftsman Bungalows, Prairie Homes, and Spanish Colonial and Mission Revival. Homes range from compact bungalows to grand mansions. Charm and beauty are the most common themes.

 

Home to TK-public school Ulysses S. Grant, private Francis Parker Lower School, and St. Vincent de Paul School, Mission Hills is popular with the school-age set.
